A unique, environmentally-focused educational facility, the Sustainable Living Center contains classroom, metal and wood workshop, greenhouse, laboratory, and office spaces that demonstrate sustainable and energy efficient technology to be applied in everyday life.

An off-grid project, the building is designed to meet
LEED Platinum and Living Building Challenge standards.

Key sustainable design strategies include:
•Stabilized earth block using local soil
•R-10 superglass heatmirror glazed fiberglass windows
•Lighting with daylight dimming and LED fixtures
•Captured rainwater used for toilet flushing, irrigation, and fire protection (and water efficient fixtures)
•Use of locally harvested and manufactured materials
•Plant-based on-site wastewater treatment
•10 KW wind turbine and 5 KW Photovoltaic panels
•Passive heating
